A new keeper for Big cats

A photo of Bronwyn with a lion and a tiger.Meet Bronwyn, Crocodylus Park’s newest big cat keeper. Bronwyn worked at Australia Zoo prior to coming to the park, and is loving the challenge of working with the cats.
She has been kept very busy attending to every need of the cats such as food preparation, feeding, cleaning, enrichment and enclosure maintenance.

Bronwyn has 11 cats to look after – 3 tigers, 3 lions, 3 ocelots, a Persian leopard and a fishing cat. Each of them have own different personalities and special requirements to attend to which makes for a very action packed day. Come in and watch our magnificent cats as they eat their breakfast, play with each other or laze around in their pools.

Australian Freshwater Crocodile eggs hatched in the park recently. The eggs were laid in September and October in a display enclosure in the Park. The babies are 20 to 25 cm in total length, and 30 to 40 grams in weight when hatched. They are very shy and very sensitive to stress. They will be kept in nursery enclosures until old enough to go on display.

Saltwater Crocodiles laid eggs

Photo: Saltwater crocodile eggs. Our saltwater crocodiles laid eggs in the park recently. At an average of 113g, the eggs are much larger than chicken eggs in size. The male and female parents both protected the nest when our staff collected the eggs for incubation. Visitors enjoyed observing the egg collecting. These eggs need to be handled very carefully and are incubated in constant temperature incubators, at 99% humidity for 3 months. The eggs will hatch in February - March 2008.
